About

Hello! My name is Janet and I have been passionate about reading and writing book reviews since I was very young.

I live near Manchester and am fortunate enough to work in a job that is all about books and getting others interested in reading. No, I’m not in publishing (though I’d love to be)… I work in a secondary school as Learning Resource Centre Manager.  I am privileged to be acquainted with several authors and publishers in my quest to spread the reading bug.  I love arranging author visits, being involved in local book fairs and supporting local bookshops/booksellers.

I love all kinds of books and decided to set up a blog to review all the books that I read as I am reviewing books on several sites at the moment and wanted to keep them in one place for easy access.  I think that it’s important to read widely and I try to get readers to do the same as it’s too easy to get stuck into reading your favourite genre thereby missing out on other gems.

I have been running my own Young Writers Programme for the past 8 years and several of my students have been published in anthologies and one has just published her first novel at 14 years old!

I studied English, History, Psychology, Sociology and Political Science at University as well as Business Management so I have expertise in various fields.  At school, I was lucky enough to be invited to participate in the English Olympiad for three years running as only the top English students were selected from the whole country.

I have been selected as a judge this year for the Roald Dahl Revolting Rhymes Competition as well as for the BBC Radio 2 500 Words competition, for which I have already been asked to be a judge again next year.  I am currently chairing a judging panel for the Royal Society Young People’s Book Prize Award 2017.

At the moment, I am reviewing books requested on NetGalley as well as some sent to me by publishers and authors.

I am available as a BETA READER for manuscript critiquing.  I am very reliable, conscientious and have useful experience.  I will be happy to help you develop the best version of your book.

Please feel free to contact me if you’d like me to review or critique any books or have any queries.

Aside from reviewing and critiquing books, I have a full-time day job, so please be aware that I may not be able to respond straight away.

Happy reading/writing!
